Lead Vocals
Jérome NIGOU (Lead Vocals)
Discovered West Coast music at the age of 17, listening to ToTo, Michael McDonald, Christopher Cross, Bill LaBounty...
He fell in love with all the voices, the incredible melodies, the superb vocal harmonies, the sound of the Rhodes Piano and the incredible groove.
Speaking of groove, Jerome realised that there was a common denominator in everything he loved and listened to... it's a drummer called Jeff Porcaro who "gave rhythm" to the songs of Bill LaBounty, Michael McDonald, Pages, Christopher Cross, Michael Jackson, Al Jarreau and many others, in a masterful way, like no other... an unrivalled and unbeatable shuffle. Since 1994, Jerome has sung in many bands covering the songs of his "models" mentioned above, notably since 2006 in the group H.U.M consisting of top-level musicians.
Jerome released an album of West Coast compositions in 2009, including a piano-voice cover of a ToTo hit, "Out Of Love", accompanied by François Latry on piano. Jean-Michel Byron, who wrote and performed the song, sent Jerome this message after listening to his cover : "You're doing a great job on the song Jerome. It is a very tough song to sing. It sounds easy but it's understatement that I was going for. You have a very good voice and you have my blessing. Go for it dude. I wish you much success in your career. Ciao, Jean-Michel Byron."
The legendary Bobby Kimball, original lead singer of the band ToTo, also sent him this email about his performance: "That is a truly gifted performance of Out of Love ...". Jerome was lucky enough to perform this superb song live in 2012 with Jean-Michel Byron himself ! Composing is also an important part of his career, with Jerome collaborating as a writer and performer with many French and international artists: Ted Llido, Magoo, Tom Hansen, Orion 2.0...
For the record, it was during a conversation with long-time friend and producer Michel Gayraud that the band Timeless ToTo Tribute was born. Michel had been looking in vain for years for a ToTo cover band in France and Europe. Jérôme suggested he should put together a cover band with a hand-picked group of talented musicians. The two of them, probably a bit crazy but both passionate ToTo fans, decided to form the Timeless Toto Tribute band together.
"Having the chance to perform live the music of ToTo, of whom I've been a fan from the start, with some incredible musicians, is truly a teenage dream come true ! Covering the hits of this timeless band is also a real challenge. On a more personal level, it's a privilege and a rare opportunity to pay tribute to such great singers as Bobby Kimball, Joseph Williams and Steve Lukather.
Keyboards / Backing Vocals
Simon GRUWÉ-COURT (Keyboards / Backing Vocals)
Began his varied musical culture with his father, a pianist and music lover.
Simon discovered ToTo at a very early age and was hooked on the band from the very first listen. Driven by this inspiration, he has turned to composition and production, and has developed these skills around his playing of several instruments.
On stage, Simon returns to the instrument he started learning at the age of 3, the piano. His broad musical culture, his ear for music and his curiosity have enabled him to accompany a wide variety of groups and styles on stage. He also composes and produces a wide range of genres, as well as music for the screen.
Bass
François PETIT (Bass)
Started out over 30 years ago in blues and jazz clubs in Paris (Utopie, Front Page, Méridien étoile). He has played in various blues, rock and pop bands, and has also studied jazz at the CIM jazz school.
François has accompanied a number of nationally and internationally renowned musicians, including harmonica player Jean-Jacques Milteau, guitarist Mauro Serri, drummer Christophe Deschamps and pianist Dominique Fillon.
He recently moved to the Tarn to start an artist residency project. He's a big fan of the band ToTo, and in particular of Jeff Porcaro, Mike Porcaro and David Hungate.
"I joined the Timeless ToTo Tribute because it had long been a dream of mine to play this repertoire and pay tribute to this legendary band. As a bass player who started out playing drums, it's an honour to be able to pay tribute to Jeff and Mike Porcaro, and of course to all the other members of the ToTo band.
Backing Vocals
Laurent DENCAUSSE (Backing Vocals)
Thirty years dedicated to singing and playing the guitar, from hard Rock to sweet Pop, on stages as varied as his repertoire.
After all these years spent singing, he recently dared to lead the way by writing, composing and arranging his own album, becoming "Random Koslow".
In addition to the album, the last few years have been rich in stimulating projects, giving him the opportunity to work with some outstanding musicians, including members of the group H.U.M, Big Band Brass and Woodfolk. The creation this year of Quintessence and the Timeless Toto Tribute have been rewards for these years of learning, allowing him to offer the best of himself to these two formidable teams.
"Joining Timeless ToTo Tribute is, somehow, a way of giving back to the ToTo group all that it has given me. The quality of their compositions, their vocal harmonies, their ability to create hits and highly demanding songs with the same talent, have forever set a standard for my taste and my ear."
Saxophone
Bastien MAURY (Saxophone)
Began his musical career with classical training, which he continued at the Conservatoire until he obtained his diplomas. Then he turned to jazz and improvised music in order to fully express himself musically. This versatility in his curriculum is reflected in the diversity of the groups in which he subsequently had the opportunity to play, while returning to the conservatoire, this time as a teacher.
He has played in a number of groups including Panda's Cover Gang, Funky Style Brass, L'autre Big Band, Mam'zelle Bee Swing Orchestra, Pink City Orchestra and more occasionally in other bands as a regular substitute (Big Band Brass, Money Makers... ).
"I've been listening to ToTo music since I was a teenager. I've always sought the greatest diversity in what I play on stage. Timeless ToTo Tribute is the perfect opportunity to play live this repertoire that I love."
Drummer
Gaëtan DEMOEN (Drummer)
Was born near Paris into a music-loving family. He started playing drums at the age of 3, playing on his parents' records. Self-taught until the age of 9, his first teacher encouraged him to take up the piano at
the same time, and he soon began playing in groups, notably with his brother on the guitar.
He then took several years of drum lessons, the last 6 with his mentor, Laurent Faucheux, who introduced him to percussion, sound work and the use of machines, and guided him towards the role of musician-accompanist on stage and in the studio.
After playing in several orchestras and musical projects near Toulouse, he has now settled in Paris. His various encounters have led him to play in France and abroad, accompanying a wide range of artists including Ours, Kellylee Evans, Mister Mat, Ariel Tintar and Cédric Duchemann.
Gaëtan's real discovery of ToTo happened when he met Simon Gruwé-Court, his musical partner in crime, who got him to listen to their 2007 live show. Thereafter, he 'tracked' these musicians and their incomparable 'accompaniment skills' wherever possible, particularly on West Coast records from the 70s and 80s.
"It was this shared passion that led me to befriend Jérôme Nigou and join the Timeless ToTo Tribute band, first and foremost as an admirer of the great Jeff Porcaro.
Trumpet / Backing Vocals
Alain CAZCARRA (Trumpet / Backing Vocals)
Began learning the trumpet at the age of 8 at the Limoux music school with Jacques Adamo. At the age of 14, he entered the Toulouse Conservatoire where he studied with Paul Millisher. Every Wednesday when he left the Conservatoire, he walked through a market on the Place du Capitole where records were sold. The first record Alain bought was "The Seventh One"... by ToTo.
On listening to this album, he discovered the superb arrangements by the fabulous trumpeter and arranger Jerry Hey and his section "The Seawind Horns", for whom he was to have great admiration. The Seawind Horns collaborated with the best of the best at the time, including Earth, Wind & Fire, Al Jarreau, George Duke, Whitney Houston, Aretha Franklin and Frank Sinatra... In 1992, René Coll invited him to join his Big Band... from then on, he took part in many French TV shows such as "Sacrée Soirée", "Fa Si La Chanter", "Le Plus Grand Cabaret Du Monde", "Les Années Bonheur" and others...
Alain has played with many national and international artists, including Phil Collins, Charles Aznavour, Nicole Croisille, Michael Bublé, Lara Fabian, Michel Legrand, Johnny Hallyday, Florent Pagny, Michel Fugain, Barry White, Seal and Zucchero.
He has also taken part in numerous studio recordings, including Saïan Supa Crew, Positive Roots Band, Gérard Blanc, Big Band Brass Live & Gordon Goodwin. Since 1992, he has toured with many artists in France and abroad, in all styles (Robin McKelle and Michel Jonasz, for example).
"Paying tribute to ToTo was an obvious choice for me... and now it's done with the Timeless ToTo Tribute !"
Percussions
José RODRIGUEZ (Percussions)
Began studying music theory at the age of 6 at the municipal music school in Lavelanet.
In 1980 he studied classical percussion with Jean-Bernard Lasserre, becoming his successor in 1988.
In 1985, he was admitted to the Toulouse Conservatoire in the percussion class.
From 1989 to 1995 he performed with the Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse.
In 1992 he joined René Coll's Big Band where he played with many national and international artists in the following French TV shows : "Sacrée soirée", "Fa Si La Chanter", "Miss France", "Les Années Bonheur"...
At the same time, he has performed with several groups: Groupe VO, Cap Horn's, Big Band Brass, Shine Live Band...
It was at the age of 10 that José discovered the group ToTo with two emblematic songs: "Africa" and "Rosanna". He became a fan of drummer Jeff Porcaro and percussionist Lenny Castro.
"It's a great pleasure for me to join the Timeless ToTo Tribute band in memory of all the years I spent listening to this legendary group."
Guitar
Loucas BIDARD (Guitar)
Has been interested in the electric guitar from an early age. He began his learning and culture with blues, blues rock and 60/70s pop/rock (Freddie King - Stevie Ray Vaughan - Deep Purple - David Gilmour, Pink Floyd's guitarist).
Then he discovered the "Rock stage" of the 80s and 90s... It was at this time that he became interested in the world of soloists.
With the advent of shredding (an approach to guitar playing that emphasises speed and the technical difficulty of execution), he decided to study this technique more closely and put it into practice by listening to artists such as Eddie Van Halen, Joe Satriani and Steve Lukather, as well as bands like White Snake, Extreme and Iron Maiden.
According to Loucas, Steve Lukather perfectly combines the tradition of blues with modern electric guitar techniques with remarkable mastery and freedom, making him one of his favourite guitarists! ToTo's music is a perfect blend of all the above, with a creativity, mastery and originality that are unique in the world.
Since he has been travelling the roads of France on stage, and in his professional career, there have rarely been opportunities to play the role of a "guitar hero" like Steve Lukather.
"I couldn't pass up this opportunity. Playing live in a ToTo cover band as ambitious as Timeless ToTo Tribute and surrounded by such fine musicians, I feel I have to do my best to rise to the challenge."
Keyboards / Background Vocals / Guitar
Pier PLANAS (Keyboards / Background Vocals / Guitar)
Began playing the piano at the age of 6 at the Toulouse Conservatoire. He quickly discovered a passion for music, and the guitar in particular, and soon made it his favourite occupation and main interest.
Pierre has been honing his musical eclecticism over the past 30 years in a wide range of formations. As a guitarist in the René Coll orchestra, he played with many artists (Julie Zenatti, Michael Jones, Nicole Croisille) and followed some of them on tour (Michel Jonasz in particular). It was there that he learned to love all kinds of music and enriched his pop-rock culture.
Composing plays a special role in his career. Among other projects, he has written and composed 2 albums of French songs. Pier joined Timeless ToTo Tribute as keyboardist and singer. His multi-talented profile even allows him to leave the keyboards behind at times and take up the rhythm guitar.
"Having been rocked by the sound of the "Tambu" album and the great ToTo classics, this project is the perfect opportunity for me to delve deeper into Steve Porcaro's world of sound and the rise of the first analogue synthesizers".
Lighting Designer
Mathieu AUPEIX (Lighting Designer)
Comes from a family of musicians near Chartres, and learned to love music at an early age by following his father's orchestra.
It wasn't until 2013 that Mathieu decided to make it his job, as he developed a passion for stage lighting. After training, he became lighting technician for the Elixir orchestra in Toulouse for 7 years, a collective that continues to evolve as it now has 17 musicians on stage.
He took a new course in 2019 to learn how to operate the ultimate lighting console : the Grandma 2 from MA Lightning. For 3 years now, he has been working in the events sector with a number of bands including the Neko Light Orchestra and Timeless ToTo Tribute.
"I've been listening to ToTo, that legendary band, since I was a kid. My father used to play a lot of their songs on guitar. I particularly like the rhythmic and melodic parts that you can't find anywhere else."
Sound engineer
Nicolas THERAULAZ (Sound engineer)
Has been a musician since the age of nine. Nicolas turned to percussions, which he studied at the Limoux music school. He went on to pass the finals of the "Trophée Sonor" competitions at national level. It was at this point that he fell in love with ToTo, and more particularly with Simon Phillips. The latter had just replaced Jeff Porcaro, who had died shortly before. Following in the footsteps of his idol, who was also a drummer and sound engineer, Nicolas turned to sound processing in the 2000s.
He went on to study at the Montpellier School of Arts and Media, graduating as a Sound Technician. His career has taken him from orchestras to various groups, alternating between live performances and studio recordings, in all styles from rock to jazz to classical music. He continued his career as a sound manager at a number of festivals in the south of France.
He is currently working on the design of his own recording studio. As an absolute fan of ToTo, and with a wealth of experience in the field of sound, it was only natural that Timeless ToTo Tribute should call on him to manage the band's sound.
Backliner / Stage manager
Jean-Pierre FAUROUX (Backliner / Stage manager)
Has been a drummer with a number of different groups, including the 81st Infantry Regiment band in Montpellier and various rock bands.
Naturally, he became a drum teacher and has been teaching at the ICEM (Institut Carcassonnais d'Enseignement Musical) since 1995.
He also has a wealth of experience as a technician (stage sound engineer) with many bands.
Now working in partnership with companies such as "Audio 7" and "Sud Evènement", he has taken part in festivals and events ("Jazz à L'Hospitalet", "Les bulles sonores", "Les Estivales de Gruissan"...) and regularly works for various organisations : Théâtre Municipal Jean Alary (Carcassonne), Salle municipale de l'Auditorium (Carcassonne)...
"I've been a ToTo fan since the 80s, and particularly a Porcaro family's fan, it seemed logical to me to join the Timeless ToTo Tribute to share a common passion and above all an exceptional groove".
